Dörenther Klippen
Sandstone cliffs up to 40 metres high in the Teutoburg Forest, famous for the “Crouching Woman” – one of the most popular destinations in the Tecklenburger Land, just a few minutes from the hotel.
Hiking over the cliffs
The rocks lie between Ibbenbüren and Tecklenburg in a nature reserve. The Teutoschleife “Dörenther Klippen” is particularly popular: around 9 to 10 kilometres through woodland, along narrow ridge paths and past viewpoints. The Hermannsweg also runs right over the cliffs.
The best-known rock formation is the “Crouching Woman” (Hockendes Weib). According to legend, a mother was turned to stone here while saving her children from a flood.
